HIPAA & Communication Notice

Online communication has important limits.

This notice explains how to think about email, voicemail, scheduling links, and urgent communication when contacting the practice. It is meant to support privacy and clarity before and during treatment.

Emergency Notice

Do not use email or this website for emergencies.

Email, voicemail, contact links, and online scheduling are not monitored for emergencies and should not be used for urgent clinical needs. If you are in immediate danger or experiencing a medical or mental health emergency, call 911, call or text 988, or go to the nearest emergency room.

Email & Voicemail

Please keep initial messages brief.

When contacting the practice, please avoid including detailed clinical information, sensitive health history, crisis information, or information about another person. A brief message with your name, contact information, general reason for reaching out, and scheduling availability is usually sufficient.

Email and voicemail may involve privacy risks. By choosing to communicate by email or voicemail, you acknowledge that these methods may not be fully secure and may not be appropriate for detailed clinical communication.

HIPAA

Patient information may be protected by health privacy laws.

If you become a patient, information created or received in connection with treatment may be protected by HIPAA and other applicable privacy laws. Uses and disclosures of protected health information are governed by applicable law, professional obligations, and practice policies provided during intake or treatment.

Psychotherapy notes may receive additional protection under HIPAA. Clinical records, billing information, insurance information, and communications may be treated differently depending on the applicable legal category and purpose.

Scheduling Links

Third-party scheduling and directory tools have separate policies.

If you use Zocdoc, Psychology Today, Google, insurance portals, or another third-party tool to contact or schedule with the practice, that service may collect and process information under its own privacy policy and terms.

Please review those policies if you have questions about how a third-party platform handles your information.

Current Patients

Communication expectations may be discussed in treatment.

Current patients should use the communication methods discussed with the practice for scheduling, cancellations, clinical questions, and records requests. Email may be used for limited administrative purposes unless other arrangements have been made.

This page is informational and does not replace individualized clinical agreements, informed consent documents, or a full Notice of Privacy Practices where required.
